Twelve-year-old Magie Maemi has always known she’s different. While everyone around her has a magical companion, Magie has instead found herself gifted with magic—magic that can be dangerous. Afraid of being discovered, she uses this power to hide her lack of a Soule with a plush dragon named WeiWei. After getting a chance invitation to Gestrun Boarding School for Spectacular Soules, Magie seizes the opportunity to finally belong and search for a Soule of her own.
As Magie begins to dig deeper however, she’ll learn the truth behind her power, the school, and the origin of Soules and why they've started going rogue and causing chaos across the city. As these secrets surface and begin to endanger her classmates and community, Magie will need to work with her new friends and put an end to it before it swallows them whole.
